I had excellentSep 02 2004Math
I had excellent SATs, grades, and class rank, and I got into the UP campus. However, I know people who got in with good grades, or good SATs, but not both. It's not hard to get into a branch campus and transfer to main campus later, if you don't meet with success at being admitted to UP.
I would recommend trying for the honors program - it has excellent benefits, scholarships, and overall is a better academic experience.

Engineering at PSU is seriousAug 30 2004Engineering Department
Engineering at PSU is serious. Make sure that you are prepared for the workload. Try to actually learn in your high school math/science classes cause your going to need it here: getting good stats can only give you admission to the university, it does not guarentee good grades. If you want to get into the Honors College, remember that admissions is almost as tough as it is at Ivy-league schools. Overall the engineering school (even though it is already consistently ranked in the top 20) is very underrated by many people, who are simply speculating. This is one of the most challenging schools in the nation and the opportunities are endless. Prepare well.

Get a 1200 on youJul 24 2004Business - Management and Administration
Get a 1200 on you SAT. You should be in provided you didn't fail high school.
Apply Early.
If you can't get a 1200, try the ACT. Some do better on that.

If you do initially attend a satellite campus, you'll have to buckle down a lot when you get to University Park.

Get a 1400 and look for scholarships/Schreyer Honors College on the horizon.

I'd really like to see the quality of students improve here immensely, so please, if you are very intelligent/academically inclined/passionate about your potential major/intellectually curious, apply here and consider it!

Don't stress so much over theMar 03 2004School of Information
Don't stress so much over the SATs or ACTs. They're great, but they won't kill you if you don't have an amazing score. Focus mainly on your high school transcript: GPA, activities, awards, etc. You don't have to be perfect, just competitive. Don't be too let down if you get deferred to another campus.
